Daily doodle: How to draw a head

My cousin asked me about drawing a head and I explained it this way to him: the basic building block (for me) of almost every head is a circle (which makes sense if you think of skulls). Here’s my how to. Start with a circle, put a cup under it and that’s the start of your head.

Here, I’m doing a 3/4 view so I add the side of the jawline which is a bit like a diamond shape addition. As this is a 3/4, you’ll notice the midline isn’t actually in the middle. Then I use the midline to add a triangle for the nose. I draw in mouth, eyes, and a few details later…Norman Osborne. You can try this guide for realistic drawings as well. If you look at any of my zombie sketches for the Dead Crossing promo, this is how many of them started.

About nguyeningit

Welcome to my daily sketch blog run primarily from my smartphone. I left a corporate job a few years ago to work in comics and on my Art. Follow me, my foibles and triumphs as I do what it takes to improve my skills and make it in the comic book industry. Hey, it's either that or crying myself to sleep and I think I'm too cheery for that ;)

  1. I don’t understand the first sentence of paragraph two. Is “but” suppose to be there?
